Words of Wisdom
"The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are."
~ Carl Jung
Welcome to Christine Dempsey Mental Health Counseling.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State who approaches therapy with collaboration, compassion, and authenticity in mind.
If you are struggling with low self-esteem, people-pleasing patterns, difficulty setting boundaries, and feeling stuck in painful or unhelpful thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, I can help you develop self-trust, strengthen self-esteem, prioritize your needs, establish healthy boundaries, and build the skills you need to move through difficult thoughts and feelings with greater flexibility and self-awareness.
Using a person-centered, compassionate approach, I integrate cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based therapies to help you better understand yourself, clarify what matters most to you, and take meaningful steps toward living more authentically.
I also incorporate body-based awareness practices to help you understand how emotions show up physically, what those emotions may be communicating, and how to reconnect with your own internal wisdom.
My approach incorporates the following therapy modalities:
-
CBT — Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
-
DBT — Dialectical Behavior Therapy
-
ACT — Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
-
MBCT — Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy
-
Person-Centered and Existential Therapy
-
Somatic Body Awareness and Movement

What to Expect
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is central to a trusting therapeutic relationship. Everything discussed in our consultation and sessions is kept strictly private, in accordance with counseling ethics and HIPAA regulations.
Read my Privacy Policy here.
Consultation
We begin with a 15-minute phone consultation to see if working together feels like a good fit.
When you schedule a consultation, I will call you at your selected time. We will talk about what you’re currently experiencing and what brings you to therapy.
I will share how I work, and you are welcome to ask any questions you have about me, therapy or what to expect.
If it feels like a good fit, we will schedule an intake session.
Intake / First Session
The first session is an intake where we explore important areas of your life that may be impacting your mental and emotional well-being, including your history, current concerns, and goals for therapy.
This session also helps us begin building therapeutic trust.
We will schedule ongoing sessions at the end of this appointment.
Ongoing Therapy
In ongoing sessions, you can bring anything you want or need to talk about - nothing is TMI!
We’ll work together to understand what may be getting in the way of the life you want, and explore strategies and skills that support change. I may offer therapeutic tools or interventions based on what feels helpful, and you are always free to decide what works for you.
